Environmental Spatial Programs

The Environmental Spatial Programs team is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of the Imagery, Elevation & Depth, Water and Land Cover Foundation Spatial Data Framework datasets.

Imagery

The purpose of this program is to plan, capture and create imagery products across NSW. Data is collected using an aircraft and a Leica ADS80 sensor to a defined specification.

Standard imagery is captured at 50cm Ground Sample Distance (GSD) resolution for 1:100,000 mapsheets and 10cm GSD resolution for urban areas with a population over 500 people. The 50cm GSD imagery is also used to produce a photogrammetrically derived point cloud for the Surface Model Enhancement (SME) Project.

For areas across NSW which have a very high population base (eg. Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong) Spatial Services may acquire high resolution imagery via the private sector to agreed capture specifications.

Elevation

The purpose of this program is to plan, capture and create elevation products across NSW. Data is captured using an aircraft and a Leica ALS80 sensor a defined specification. This program is closely tied with the Surface Model Enhancement (SME) Project to produce a consistent, multi-resolution state wide elevation dataset.

LiDAR point cloud data is captured at 1 point per meter to specific project extents. Specialised data capture for the SME Project is also included as part of this program.

Special Projects and Emergency Response

Spatial Service’s is responsible for the capture of imagery and elevation data covering a wide range of emergency response and special projects. These may include natural disasters, specialised government projects and emergency situations.

Imagery requests are captured at a variety of resolutions and coverages dependent upon the specific technical requirements and timeframes of the project. LiDAR requests are captured to Spatial Services specifications and coverages are dependent upon the specific technical requirements and timeframes of the project.

The Environmental Spatial Programs team regularly provide support and technical advice to local, state and federal government agencies.
